U.S. Embassy Vienna invites all interested youth to join us on Sunday, November 20th, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. at Villa Vida for light refreshments and a friendly conversation on LGBTQI+ youth issues featuring U.S. queer author Nita Tyndall, who wrote the recently released young adult novel, Nothing Sung and Nothing Spoken, and the Denise Van De Cruze founder of Vienna’s first queer café, Villa Vida. The event will in English.

Nita Tyndall is an award-winning author whose second book for young adults, Nothing Sung and Nothing Spoken, has just been published in the United States. The story, which is set in pre-WWII Berlin, focuses on a group of teens as they explore life, friendship, and powerful questions of identity and society to a backdrop of American jazz and the rise of National Socialism. Nita recently spent a year living and working in Austria as a Fulbright Austria U.S. Teaching Assistant. They currently live in North Carolina and work as a German-English translator.

Denise Van De Cruze is an entrepreneur, and advocate for social justice and the environment. After living in Berlin, she moved to Vienna a decade ago and founded Villa Vida, the city’s first queer café, in 2019 to provide an inclusive place for social connection and support for LGBTQI+ people. Through Villa Vida, she organizes the Queer Feminist Festival and Queer Mutual Aid Fund in coordination with other LGBTQI+ artists, activists, and organizations.
