Queer Salsa

Queer Salsa Vienna Self-organized group for salsa enthusiasts (with or without previous knowledge) willing to learn and practice queer salsa without assigned gender roles.

Priority for the participation of FLINTA* and queer people. At @VillaVidaCafe on Thursdays from 6 pm to 7.30 pm.

Salsa? Born of intercultural and transnational encounters in the Latin American diaspora, salsa is a musical genre based on the fusion of Afro-Caribbean rhythms. The music has inspired a partner dance, based on small, cadenced steps and rhythmic figures. It is danced everywhere in the world. The main salsa dancing styles come from Cuba, Puerto Rico, Colombia, and the US.

Queer salsa? The group offers a space for experimenting collectively with the queer practice of salsa. You will choose freely to dance as a leader, as a follower, or both. You can come without previous experience to learn from scratch, or with prior experience to learn another role. Please also reach out if you would like to take part as an instructor.

This self-organized group is sustained thanks to the voluntary economic contribution from the participants. Besides compensation for the instructor, the collected funds contribute to the community-based projects of Villa Vida Café.
