What Does Coffee Really Taste Like?

You’ve probably encountered coffee described with fanciful flavor notes—tomato and lime, peanut and molasses—but can coffee really taste like that? It absolutely can!

Join two seasoned coffee professionals, with over a decade of combined experience as baristas, coffee roasters, trainers, and national coffee competitors, for the first installment of Cunty Coffee Cupping. Together, you’ll explore how to decipher and measure coffee sensory using coffee roasted by the 2022 Austrian and World Coffee Roasting Champion, Kaffeelix.

This session will teach you how to:

  • Use a flavor wheel to identify specific notes.
  • Differentiate between key sensory factors.
  • Complete a professional coffee cupping (tasting) sheet.

The event is free and designed to create a safe, inclusive space for anyone—particularly those who may feel excluded from the specialty coffee industry—to learn and engage in coffee cupping.

About the Host
McCrey is a coffee professional with extensive experience (since 2015) as a barista, coffee roaster, green coffee buyer, and coffee skills trainer at various roasteries and coffee companies. Their expertise spans Q-Grading, roast curve development, brew recipe creation, and sensory assessment. McCrey has competed in three national SCA Brewers Cup competitions, two SCA Cup Tasters events, and several smaller competitions. Certified by the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA), McCrey is currently pursuing AST certification, enabling them to officially certify barista skills through the SCA.
