How does our imagination inform our reality?
Is utopia possible in the queer context?
Where and how would queertopia exist?
Queertopia happens during June – Vienna Pride Month which promotes queer togetherness and community building. As part of this project, a series of events is organized that highlights both creative and social aspects of the queer community.
The events will take place on June 6th and June 9th from 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the Volkskunde Museum in Vienna. Participants will express their creativity on a shared canvas by leaving their marks. This canvas is intended to represent the diversity and solidarity of the queer community.
An exhibition will feature works of art and prints by local queer artists. These works will be offered for purchase in a silent auction, with proceeds donated to the Queer Vienna Mutual Aid Fund. This fund offers support for queer people in Vienna.
There will also be a raffle where participants can win tickets for various events. Here too, all proceeds will be donated to the “Queer Vienna Mutual Aid Fund”.
There are performances throughout from local artists such as Queens Brunch, musicians, and singer/songwriters. An open queer talent show will take place on June 9th, where performers can present their pieces and acts in various areas such as stand-up comedy, singing, poetry, and spoken word performances.
Queertopia’s conclusion on June 9th includes a yoga class where participants can experience mindfulness and relaxation. In the evening, participants can dance to the beats of local DJs and celebrate the community.
