DESCRIPTION:*Unfortunately\, this event is cancelled* \nArtist Statement:\nGovernance is the art collective of Rebecca Uliasz and Quran Karriem. We collectively build electronic compositions\, installations\, and media driven interventions that take the form of audio-visual performances and multimedia publications.  \nOur performance work includes custom electronic instruments\, analog synthesizers\, and computer systems\, affected in real time by gesture\, movement\, and interwoven patching. We use mixtures of generative and sequenced audio and video techniques to explore ideas around technical\, social\, and biological systems\, reconceived as audiovisual structures. Audiovisual synthesis works as a method for rendering form and environment through granular textures.  \nIn our practice we explore the concept of noise as a genre\, a method\, and a term derived from cybernetic sciences. Noise is conceived as both the perturbations that steer a system\, causing it to mutate in form\, and a means by which we filter meaning from non-meaning\, both aesthetically\, technically and politically.  \nWe view the works of Governance as an exaggeration of the performativity of knowledge production; an investigation of the gestures\, affects and embodied dispositions that are culturally legible as ‘knowledge work’ and imbued with a veneer of ‘objectivity’. We seek to “shift the frame” away from the norms of scientific discourse to question the conditions of the production of knowledge itself.  \nThe name Governance embodies our extended interest in how technological and social systems enact forms of power and powerlessness. We are committed to an artistic and scholarly practice rooted in ethics of collectivity and care.

DESCRIPTION:Celestial Poetics is back! Register below.  \nCelestial Poetics is an open mic poetry night that will be held every third week of the month. Our aim is to celebrate and bring people from all walks of life into an intimate setting where they can share\, dream and be beautifully queer. Everyone has a chance to hold the stage and you can speak\, rap\, or sing in whatever way you see fit or collaborate in other forms of artistic expression. You can share someone else’s work or perform your own pieces. You can speak in any language you desire and you can be whomever you want\, we accept you.\nHowever…we do no accept Transphobia\, Queephobia\, Homophobia\, ableism\, racism or any form of violence that marginalizes or discriminates. We are here to bring POC voices to the forth front but all are welcome to perform and listen. \nNote: The mission & vision of our event is to create a space where people can come & express themselves in a way that they find comfortable. There is a tendency for people being intimidated to perform in front of people and different heavy feelings. Due to this\, we are very adamant for people to see the event space where they get over such fears. We encourage people to participate. \nDescription \n18:30 – 19:00\nSigning up to perform\nGetting to know each other & mingling \n19:00 – 20:45\nThe hosts will announce the first set of performers \n20:45- 21:15\nHalf an hour break & mingling. \n21:15 – 22:00\nSecond half & final performances. \nThe hosts will announce the end of the program & invite people to stay behind & get to know each other
