DESCRIPTION:Living and Growing in the Stasis of the Pandemic – A Transnational Filmproject \nAugust 4 @ 7:00 pm CEST – Free \nThe year 2020 is one that most of us would probably prefer to forget. Corona hit hard\, but the restrictions to contain the virus have not affected everyone equally. Existing structural problems mean some people have more to fear in a pandemic than others. The pandemic has also highlighted human helplessness against the power of nature: confusion\, uncertainty\, panic about this existential threa; all set against the backdtop of an environmental crisis. \n  \nOver the course of 30mins\, the short film Living and Growing in the Stasis of the Pandemic presents the experiences of eleven protagonists from Germany\, Ireland\, Belgium\, Tunisia\, Egypt\, Uganda\, Rwanda and Peru. It is a participatory and transnational documentary looking at the complexities of isolation. Participants speculate about a supposed new normality\, presented in short biographical excerpts\, visual diary entries\, artwork and musical contributions. \n  \nBeginning in Spring 2020\, the audience follows the story of Perschya\, a young filmmaker\, who describes his biographical experiences during the first lockdown – having just moved from Darmstadt to Ludwigsburg in Baden-Württemberg for his Master’s degree. The short film follows his personal struggles in a new city that seems far removed from nature. Juvilsu\, a young Venezuelan woman living in Peru\, talks about homeless people and also tells of her work recycling in Lima. In another story\, Nora\, a trans* woman from Egypt\, explains the difficulties experienced by people from the LGBTQI* community who\, for example\, can no longer access AIDS medication due to Corona overload in hospitals. The blend of the two cultures\, together with a fascination for World War II\, was thus deeply rooted\, as real-life events were passed on to her from both grandfathers\, who actively participated in the war; one as an air raid recruit based in Malta and the other fighting in Anzio with the British Army. A creature\, so deranged\, strange\, and twisted\, its presence remains in constant flux. A tentacled elder-god\, a multi-breasted space-vixen\, a many-faced\, utterly fiendish beast. SNES is not one\, but many. Not one thought that echoes through the void\, but a chorus. A frightful symphony of ideas. Fundamentally questioning the idea of artistic production processes\, SNES establishes a postmodern continuum\, wherein the fractured self is being mirrored in equally distorted selves. The artistic practices of SNES’ involve working with interactive digital media\, installation\, performance and usage of artificial intelligence for artistic purposes. \nExpanded Painting with Artificial Intelligence\n \nMore than three years ago\, I initiated an experiment\, whether or not it’s possible to simulate the painterly process with artificial intelligence. Eventually\, after growing the AI model to a volume of roughly 250K artworks from classical and contemporary modernity\, it started to replicate composition\, ductus\, and light & color theory – the basics of painting I learned during my studies at university. Ever since I started to work with AI I was interested in the complicated relationship between the seemingly “smart” machine and us humans as its user. Which interaction possibilities and interfaces open up? Which senses and cognition tools do people have to understand a ‘black box’\, like the products of an AI? And is there a form of machine vision – aesthetic artifacts – which on the one hand are created by the correspondence between two machines and on the other hand may not be recognized as such by people who do not have the corresponding sensors. \nErweiterte Malerei mit Künstlicher Intelligenz \nVor über drei Jahren habe ich das Experiment gestartet\, ob es möglich ist\, den malerischen Prozess mit einer künstlichen Intelligenz zu simulieren. Nachdem das KI-Modell schließlich auf einen Umfang von etwa 250K Kunstwerken aus der klassischen und zeitgenössischen Moderne angewachsen war\, begann es\, Komposition\, Duktus sowie Licht- und Farbtheorie zu replizieren – die Grundlagen der Malerei\, die ich während meines Malerei-Studiums an der Universität gelernt habe. Seit ich begonnen habe\, mit KI zu arbeiten\, interessierte mich das komplizierte Verhältnis zwischen der scheinbar “intelligenten” Maschine und uns Menschen als deren Nutzer. Welche Interaktionsmöglichkeiten und Schnittstellen eröffnen sich? Welche Sinnes- und Erkenntniswerkzeuge hat der Mensch\, um eine “Black Box”\, wie die Produkte einer KI\, zu verstehen? Und gibt es eine Form des maschinellen Sehens – ästhetische Artefakte – die einerseits durch die Korrespondenz zwischen zwei Maschinen entstehen und andererseits von Menschen\, die nicht über die entsprechenden Sensoren verfügen\, möglicherweise nicht als solche erkannt werden.

She was a self-described “Black\, lesbian\, mother\, warrior\, poet\,” who dedicated both her life and her creative talent to confronting and addressing injustices of racism\, sexism\, classism\, heterosexism\, and homophobia. \nZAMI is a fast-moving chronicle. From the author’s vivid childhood memories in Harlem to her coming of age in the late 1950s\, the nature of Audre Lorde’s work is cyclical. It especially relates the linkage of women who have shaped her . . . Lorde brings into play her craft of lush description and characterization. It keeps unfolding page after page. \n**Our book club is bilingual. Und der Roman begeistert mich\, weil es ihr gelungen ist\, diese schwierige Kindheit\, die rassistischen Diskriminierungen und diese bewegten Jahre der McCarthy Ära\, in einer poetischen Sprache zu vermitteln\, die emotional und intelligent zugleich ist.
