DESCRIPTION:SLUT (noun): a woman with the morals of a man\n“No bad women\, only bad laws”\nMaïa Izzo-Foulquier\, Zelda Weinen\, Thelma Hell. \nSunday\, September the 6th\, at 5pm – Villa Vida\, Linke Wienzeile 102\, 1060 Wien. \nMaïa Izzo-Foulquier was an artist who primarily used photography as her main medium\, documenting her emotional life and that of her friends and encounters\, creating narrative structures directly related to her personal and social experiences.\nShe was also Zelda Weinen\, a feminist rap icon\, singer and producer since 2017. Rapping texts imbued with melancholia and spleen\, but also highly political\, Zelda Weinen performed gigs wearing a wedding dress. \nAs Thelma Hell\, she has been a sex worker since 2015\, who studied sociology\, political science and graduated from the école des Beaux-Arts de Nice. She was a spokesperson for the sex workers’ union STRASS\, a member of the collective Art Whore Connection. Through the union and collective\, she met and worked with the artist and sex worker activist Marianne Chargois. They organized together the SNAP festival (whores’ art festival)\, and Maïa was the cinematographer of Marianne’s film “Empower” (2018)\, that we will show one of the three parts on the occasion of this event. \nBefore she decided to die in December 2019\, she wrote a last text on the blog My Red Light – News of sex industries – dedicated to sex industry and sex workers’ rights hosted by French newspaper Libération – where she explains “At the beginning\, there is luxury and there is poverty. Poverty\, in one of its most elitist forms\, means being a graduate of several prestigious schools and yet having no place whatsoever on the job market. Luxury means the luxury of choice. The ability to choose\, basically\, between working in the kitchen of a McDonalds\, sitting in the cash register of a department store\, dealing drugs\, or turning tricks. Having tried all of these once\, I quickly made my choice. Tricking allows me to be self-employed\, to choose my hours\, my rates\, and my conditions\, and – because it has historically developed around the struggles of workers and feminists – to situate myself politically.” Maïa’s choices and commitments were radical and complete\, and she was sharing it with her sex workers sisters and friends. DESCRIPTION:This year we have decided to cancel the Vienna Dyke* March due to COVID restrictions. Instead\, we are taking part in a Global Dyke Day organized by different Dyke Marches worldwide and which will be live-streamed for 24 hours. Vienna will put together an afternoon of live music\, poetry\, performances\, and/or political statements focusing on dyke* solidarity with Black Lives Matter and global dyke* solidarity; a careful real-life and virtual get-together. \n\nJune 27th\, 2020: 2pm – 5pm\nWe have decided to host an afternoon program on the 27th of June in Villa Vida with the proceeds going to Villa Vida which has suffered greatly from the long closing during shut down. A smaller percentage will go to the participating artists. There will be an opportunity for visitors and guests to be physically present on the day from 2-5 pm and make a sliding scale donation. [wdgk_donation]If you are watching the live stream and also the recording we are grateful for your donations. In this way\, the event aims at bringing together the dyke* community of Vienna after the lockdown\, but also to bring together Dyke March followers and participants from all over the world. \nParticipate\nThe dyke march invites all those to participate\, who identify as\, sympathize with\, and support dykes in all their fabulousness! Any person who identifies as a dyke is welcome to join us regardless of gender expression or identity\, sex assigned at birth\, sexual orientation\, race\, age\, political affiliation\, religious identity\, ability\, class\, or immigration status. If you would like you to be a part of this with a performance\, a statement\, a song\, or help promoting\, financing\, or physically setting up this event\, please get back to dykemarch@villavida.cafe \nAttend\, Watch\, Donate \nThere are limited spaces at Villa Vida Cafe so if you want to attend the performance/protest in person\, you must register by clicking the “Reserve your Spot” button above. The stream will be free and available to watch online. We are asking for donations to help contribute to the Villa Vida Cafe project and contributing performers. \nBlack Lives Matter\nThis year’s Global Dyke Day is happening at a time when Black activists are giving us a myriad of examples of direct resistance\, speaking truth to power\, and collective organizing. The Dyke March was born from the conviction that “we must organize among ourselves to fight for our rights\, safety\, and visibility.” We ask that you show up for Black lives with that same fervor throughout the weeks and months to come.
