SUMMARY:Roots Workshop: Memory\, Migration\, Nature & Belonging
DESCRIPTION:„To be rooted is perhaps the most important and least recognised need of the human soul.“ – Simone Weil \n\n\n\nWhat do the plants of your childhood carry? What grows in the soil of the place you came from\, and what do you take with you when you leave? \n\n\n\nRoots is a workshop about the living connections between memory\, identity\, and the natural world. It begins with a simple question: which plant\, flower\, tree\, or natural element has stayed with you across borders\, languages\, cities\, or seasons of your life? \n\n\n\nGrounded in queer ecology and feminist theory\, this workshop approaches nature not as a backdrop but as a site of knowledge\, a space that resists fixed categories and holds space for diverse ways of existing\, adapting\, and belonging. Drawing from the work of writers Sania Shah and Jessica J. Lee\, and from examples of queerness in plant and flower life\, we will reflect together on the places we come from\, the places we inhabit now\, and the traces we carry between them. \n\n\n\nMigration takes many forms. Across countries and continents. Across languages. Across social worlds\, families\, and selves. Wherever you have moved from and toward\, you bring something with you\, often in ways you haven’t yet found words for. This workshop creates space to find them. \n\n\n\nWhat we’ll do: \n\n\n\nThrough storytelling\, group discussion\, drawing\, and speculative making\, participants will: \n\n\n\n\nIdentify a transformational plant or natural element of personal significance\n\n\n\nReflect on their own relationships to place\, movement\, and memory\n\n\n\nExplore themes of anti-racism\, collective storytelling\, and the right to exist\n\n\n\nDraw their chosen plant onto shrink plastic paper\n\n\n\nBake their drawing into a small durable object\, a pendant\, keychain\, pin\, magnet\, or personal talisman\, something they can carry with them\n\n\n\n\nThe final object is more than a craft. It is a way of saying: I came from somewhere. I carry it with me. I am here. \n\n\n\nNo prior knowledge\, experience\, or materials required. DESCRIPTION:Capturing and archiving queer identity and diversity in all its beauty is an incredibly crucial act that the project @999portraits by @cukadavid aims to do \n\n\n\n We as Dragsau are all about visibility of all queer identities\, lives and bodies and are going to support this wonderful project with a fundraiser by yours truly!  \n\n\n\nAt newcomers\, first-timers and the drag-curious: This event will be an open stage! So maybe it is finally also your time to shine  \n\n\n\n\nWhen? Saturday\, July 18th; 7pm entry\, 8pm show\n\n\n\n\n\nWhere? Villa Vida Café\, Linke Wienzeile 102\, 1060 Wien\n\n\n\n\n\nHow much? It’s a fundraiser\, so give what you can to make @999portraits bloom as the important project that it is. We recommend giving 8-15€.\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat? An open drag stage! We will prioritize disabled performers and newcomers for this event!
